Virginia 2007 Community Program
Guidelines

Guidelines

  • Organize a 2007 Planning Committee – Organize a committee of community leaders with diverse backgrounds who are willing to promote and coordinate 2007 activities.
  • Look at the Past – Examine your community's history, its heroes and heritage. Develop a project to promote that history.

  • Discover Your Community’s Unique Assets – Evaluate your community as a place to live, work, and visit.

  • Develop Special Legacy Projects – Adopt projects to be finished before or during 2007 that have lasting value to your community and its citizens. At least one project must be related to your history.

  • Come Home to Virginia – Invite the world to come home to your community with special events and programs.
Community Responsibilities

  • Each community must complete an official Virginia 2007 Community   Program application form and submit it to the Jamestown 2007 office.

  • Community leaders pledge to complete the five steps to be official communities.

  • It is the sole responsibility of each community to decide what 2007 projects will be undertaken, and how they will be planned, managed and funded.

  • At this time, no funding is available for Virginia 2007 community projects.

  • 2007 Communities will receive a Virginia 2007 Community Program flag and official proclamation signed by Governor Mark R. Warner. Closer to 2007, additional promotional materials, such as pole banners or road signs, will be available.

  • It will be the community chairperson’s responsibility to provide the 2007 office with quarterly updates on their progress and current plans. More frequent communication will be encouraged and appreciated.

  • Communities are requested to submit copies of press releases and general news stories concerning their commemorative plans to the 2007 office.

Jamestown 2007 Responsibilities
